If you’ve never hired a landscaper to help you with your outdoor spaces here are some tips to keep in mind!
1. Ask for a referral and actually call or email the referral!
You can find out a lot just by talking to someone else who has hired the company you are interested in. A good company will have clients happy to talk about their experience. You’ll want to ask about what is important to you. Here are some example questions to help you out: Did the company respond to your request for work in a timely manner? Were the owner and workers all knowledgeable about the projects you hired them for? How did the final cost compare to the estimate? How would you rate the quality of the work? Did the company respond to your questions or concerns quickly and thoroughly? Who comes to do the work and do they understand english?
2. Ask lots of questions!
A good quality landscape and garden company is lead by people who love what they do. The person who talks with you about your job should be patient, interested and know the answers to your questions or offer to get back to you if they don’t know. Also, you want to get a sense that they have a professional understanding of the scope of the project you’re hiring them for. It’s okay to call and email if you have questions that you forgot to ask!
3. Ask a neighbor who they use
If you like the way a neighbors landscape or garden looks, ask them who they use and if they recommend them. This way you know someone who has worked with the company before.
4. Get a few estimates
I recommend getting at least 3 estimates. Every company varies by experience, professionalism, style and cost. You may be looking for the cheapest option and that’s ok for some basic work. You may want someone really experienced for a big project, even if it costs more. If there’s a company you like but they come in higher than expected you can always ask for a discount. A good company will want to meet their clients needs whenever possible
5. Ask for pictures of their work
These days most companies will have photos of their work on their website. You can ask them for photos if they don’t have a website. They should be proud to show you their work!
