Coming Soon to LGS

Asimina triloba

Asimina triloba Pawpaw

Asimina triloba, pawpaw, is a small understory tree that can grow up to 30 feet tall. Large, slightly drooping leaves continue to grow green throughout much of the fall before changing to a bright yellow color. In the spring, cup-shaped purple flowers appear. After the flowers bloom, oblong, yellowish green fruits emerge. The fruits are edible and mature in the early fall to a dark brown. The fruit of the paw paw tree can be consumed raw or in pies or ice creams. Fruits are commonly sought after by wildlife such as raccoons or opossums. The tree grows best in average, medium to wet soils in full sun to part shade.

LGS notes:

You ask and LGS delivers! Many folks requested Pawpaw last season, and we have a grower to supply us for the 2022 season. -Jessica

The Pawpaw tree is the host plant for the Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly – the caterpillar only feeds on its leaves! This is a great tree to add biodiversity to your yard. – Cianna
