Making Valuable Fertilizer Out of Leaves

Save money and nourish your garden!

We make leaf compost at Myrtle Woods. We drive around on recycling day and load up the truck with other peoples bagged leaves left on the curb for pick up. Last year Cathy shredded the leaves with a leaf shredder attachment for a riding mower. She turned them a couple times with the tractor and this fall we had great leaf mould (pictures above)! This works as a great mulch on your garden beds.

If you add nitrogen (grass clippings, weeds, bone meal) it’ll compost much more quickly. Find a corner of your yard to pile your leaves and save money on fertilizer next year!
