How Water Gardens Can Create a More Peaceful Space

Aug 8, 2012 | Blog

Adding a water garden to your property can create a more peaceful space to sit and relax and enjoy nature.

We added a small waterfall pond to our back yard and it has been the best! When visitors come to our house they stop to listen to the water, watch it fall down the rocks into the pond, look at the tadpoles swimming around and plants growing in and around the garden. We’ve seen the birds bathing and taking drinks, frogs resting on a rock on the waters edge and our kids playing in the water and on the rocks.

We can hear the sound of the water trickling in down the rocks from our living room and bedroom and have a great view of the pond from our deck upstairs. We love the peacefulness the pond instills in us so much that we bought a set of patio furniture to put close to it so we can sit and enjoy dinner or play games with friends adjacent to the pond.

Recently we built a stream waterfall into a pond that our clients had built themselves. While we were working we saw lots of honey bees visiting the water hyacinth, dragonflies hovering overhead, a few bullfrogs talking to each other, water bugs hopping on the surface of the pond, fish eating water bugs and fish even jumping up, against the strong current, into the waterfall stream we were building. It was really enjoyable to watch.

Adding a water feature to your outdoor space can be a simple and inexpensive do it yourself project or as complex as an amazing waterfall stream that empties into a huge pond! Either one, and all the possibilities in between are great, thoroughly enjoyable options for your gardens no matter what size they are.
