I went to one of my clients’ house yesterday to take notes for a new design she wants for her yard. I told her she should be a writer for a plant catalog because she’s got the most amazing descriptions for her beloved garden plants. I felt whisked away to another time and place when she talked about her plants unique attributes.
I thought of her today when driving by all of the peonies in bloom. They look like constellations to me with some flowers open, some just starting and some as buds. I think white peonies, Paeonia lactiflora ‘Shirley Temple’ would be a great combination with Sambucus nigra ‘Black Lace’, also called elder shrub (which is also in bloom right now).
Both plants are medicinal and elder has an edible berry if you have two different cultivars.
